Ramallah: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas declared that the Palestinian people and their cause cannot be dissolved or eliminated. He made these remarks on the 20th anniversary of Yasser Arafat's death, emphasizing the enduring struggle for Palestinian rights. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas addressed the dire situation in the Gaza Strip, describing it as a second catastrophe and a war of genocide. He accused the occupation of rendering the area uninhabitable. He vowed that any displacement plans would be thwarted with the resilience of the Palestinian people and international support, committing to efforts to end the conflict and restore Gaza to its rightful place within the Palestinian state. President Abbas highlighted the challenges posed by the current extreme right-wing government in Israel, noting that both Gaza and the West Bank face threats of annexation and displacement. He reassured that the Palestinian people would remain steadfast on t heir land, honoring the legacy of Yasser Arafat and those who sacrificed for the cause. In advocating for peace, President Abbas reiterated the necessity of ending the occupation to achieve security and stability. He called for sovereignty and independence based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital, and a fair solution for Palestinian refugees in line with the Arab Initiative and Resolution 194. President Abbas also condemned Israeli decisions to ban UNRWA operations in Palestine, committing to counter these actions in coordination with host countries for Palestinian refugees. He affirmed the pursuit of accountability for occupation crimes through international legal channels. Reiterating the importance of national unity, President Abbas emphasized adherence to internationally recognized rights and goals under the Palestine Liberation Organization. He pledged to continue the struggle for freedom and independence, honoring the sacrifices of past generations and committing to the eventual free dom of Palestinian prisoners. Concluding his speech, President Abbas paid tribute to Yasser Arafat's enduring legacy, asserting that Palestinians would remain rooted in their land and that their truth could not be erased.
