NEW YORK: President Mahmoud Abbas met today with Borge Brende, the President of the World Economic Forum, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the meeting, President Abbas provided an update on the latest developments in Palestine, emphasizing ongoing efforts to engage all parties in halting the widespread Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza. He called for the expedited delivery of humanitarian aid and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, while also urging an end to the daily assaults by occupation forces and extremist settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The President addressed efforts to implement the UN General Assembly resolution regarding the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, as well as Palestine's pursuit of full membership in the United Nations. He also discussed Israel's economic strangulation policies and the confiscation of Palestinian funds, which necessitate internationa l action to end these aggressive practices against the Palestinian people.
