Ramallah: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call today from President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides. During the call, the two leaders emphasized the solid relations between their countries and the importance of continued cooperation and coordination in all fields.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the conversation also covered the latest developments in the Palestinian territories. President Abbas informed President Christodoulides of the Palestinian stance on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and its sustainability, the need for humanitarian aid, and the complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. Abbas stressed the importance of the State of Palestine assuming full responsibilities in the Strip, viewing it as an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory.
President Abbas emphasized the need for a comprehensive and permanent political solution that ends the occupation and grants the Palestinian people their legitimate rights, freedom, and independence. He assured that the Palestinian government, along with its civil and security apparatuses, is ready to assume responsibilities in the Gaza Strip to alleviate suffering, aid displaced individuals in returning home, and restore essential services.
The President highlighted a prepared relief, early recovery, and emergency response plan for the Gaza Strip. This plan, devised in cooperation with donor countries and international organizations, aims to expedite the entry of aid while urging the occupation authorities to cease serious attacks in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and halt settlement activities and violations against religious sanctities.
President Abbas commended Cyprus for its role in supporting peace and stability through international legitimacy resolutions and international law. He appreciated Cyprus' backing for an international peace conference scheduled for next June, aimed at garnering support for a two-state solution. This conference seeks international recognition of the State of Palestine and its full membership in the United Nations, aiming to achieve security and stability in the region, ending the occupation, and establishing the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the 1967 borders.
