Jerusalem’s French Consul Says Israeli Colonization is Illegal

Jerusalem: French Consul General in Jerusalem Nicolas Kassianides emphasized that Israeli colonization is illegal under international law and poses a significant threat to the two-state solution. The statement was made during an event honoring journalist Basil Adra, who received the Anna Politkovskaya-Arman Soldin Award for Courage in Journalism in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Kassianides highlighted that colonization is associated with acts of violence on the ground, necessitating ongoing mobilization of the international community. This community has already demonstrated a clear stance by imposing sanctions on colonizers responsible for these violations. He reiterated France's commitment to supporting justice and peace in the region and strengthening the voice of journalistic courage amid challenges.

Basil Adra was recognized for his outstanding work in the film "No Other Land," which sheds light on the daily suffering of civilians in the West Bank due to Israeli violations, including home demolitions, forced displacement, and colonial expansion. The French Consulate explained in a press release that this recognition aligns with France's support for courageous journalistic endeavors that expose the excesses of colonization, consistent with its steadfast position on the Palestinian issue.
