Vatican City: In a rare stance against Israeli policy, Pope Francis denounced what he described as the arrogance of the invaders in Palestine during a speech at the Vatican on Monday. This declaration comes just a week after the Pope first addressed allegations of genocide in Gaza. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Pope made these remarks on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the peace treaty between Chile and Argentina. While reflecting on current armed conflicts, he highlighted the profound suffering they induce. He specifically pointed out the ongoing crises in Ukraine and Palestine, where he believes the arrogance of the occupier stifles meaningful dialogue. Renewing his criticism of the arms trade, Pope Francis underscored the hypocrisy inherent in advocating for peace while simultaneously engaging in warfare. Speaking to an audience of diplomats and religious representatives, he emphasized that dialogue should be the cornerstone of international relations. In late Se ptember, Pope Francis had already criticized the "immoral" use of force in Lebanon and Gaza, suggesting that Israel should show restraint. However, this recent statement marks the first occasion on which the head of the Catholic Church has publicly condemned Israeli policy in the occupied Palestinian territories with such directness.
