ABU DHABI: Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. During the meeting, the developments taking place in the Middle East and their various repercussions were discussed, most notably the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the continued Israeli escalation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The need to mobilize the international community to pressure the Israeli government to implement an immediate cease fire and to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza were also stressed, as well as finding a serious political horizon to reinvigorate the negotiations process to achieve a comprehensive peace based on the 'two-state solution' to ensure sustainable peace, security and stability in the region. He praised the diplomatic efforts exerted by the UAE at the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly to spare the Palestinian people the scourge of war, and for the relief and medical aid it provided to the afflicted people of Gaza. The meeting focused on the ongoing international efforts aimed at reaching an immediate ceasefire, and protecting the civilians, with the two sides underscoring the critical need for a regular and reliable flow of essential supplies to the people of Gaza, to address their immediate needs and improve their living conditions. For his part, the Emirati minister affirmed the UAE's unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, and working actively with the international community to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
