Gaza: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) Monday decried the intentional killing by Israeli airstrikes of two journalists in the Gaza Strip. The PJS expressed strong condemnation of this act, identifying the journalists as Mohammad Mansour, a correspondent for Palestine Today, and Hossam Shabat, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the PJS released a press statement labeling the incident as a 'heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation.' The statement highlighted the perceived intention behind the attack, stating it was an effort to 'erase the truth and terrorize all those who carry the message of free speech.'
The PJS emphasized that this incident is part of a wider pattern, describing it as a systematic policy targeting Palestinian journalists. The statement noted that since the beginning of the aggression, over 206 journalists, media professionals, and media workers have been killed by Israeli forces, marking a significant threat to journalists in the region.
The organization held the Israeli occupation fully responsible and urged the international community to take action. It called for intervention from the United Nations and the International Criminal Court, along with other human rights and media organizations, to impose sanctions and hold Israel accountable for what PJS terms as war crimes against journalists.
The PJS pledged to continue documenting these incidents and pursuing legal action against Israeli leaders in international forums. The statement concluded with a firm commitment to ensuring that the truth prevails, despite attempts to silence Palestinian journalists.
