Ramallah - Together - Paving operations have begun on some sections of internal roads in Al-Jalazoun Camp, north of Ramallah, as part of a camp improvement project implemented by the Refugee Affairs Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization in cooperation with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This project comes within comprehensive development plans aimed at improving the infrastructure inside the camps, with Japanese funding estimated at approximately $400,000. The Undersecretary of the Department of Refugee Affairs and the project manager, Anwar Hamam, confirmed that the project aims to involve camp residents in planning processes, with the aim of meeting the development needs of the population and enhancing their role in social construction. Hamam indicated that the project has begun to be implemented in several camps, with work continuing to cover all the targeted camps. Hamam stressed the importance of the efforts made by Japan in supporting the Palestinian people, espe cially inside the camps. These efforts are appreciated and have a positive impact on the conditions of the camp residents and the institutions working inside them, developing their capabilities and empowering them to become effective elements in the process of social construction. For her part, the project supervisor and Japanese grant coordinator, engineer Shatha Alawneh, explained that the focus on the Jalazoun camp comes according to the priorities chosen by the residents, as paving of a length of 3.2 km is being implemented at an estimated cost of $400,000. During the next two days, asphalt works are scheduled to be carried out on two strategic sections, 700 meters long, which will provide safe options for movement inside and outside the camp.
