Palestinian Journalists Syndicate stresses need for urgent intervention to stop ongoing Israeli crimes against media, journalists in Palestine

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate stressed the need for urgent intervention by international human rights and media institutions to stop the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation against the media and journalism sector, which is being premeditatedly targeted. The Freedom Committee at the Palestinian Journalists Syndicates stated in its monthly report that last November witnessed numerous Israeli crimes against journalists in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem. In the report, the committee demounted the killing of 16 journalists working in various media institutions in the Gaza Strip, as well as the detention of 17 journalists, seven of whom were released. Serious incidents included 30 bombings and break-ins in the offices, institutions and homes of journalists in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, it said. According to the report, there were 43 detention cases of crews' members and denial of coverage in the West Bank, including 15 cases of suffocation by tear gas. This month, 12 jou rnalists have been injured, in addition to 11 incidents in which journalists received death threats, in addition to incitement carried out by Israeli parties to kill journalists. The report cited dozens of detentions, trials, summons and imposing fines against journalists and social media activists under the pretext of "incitement". Head of Freedom Committee, Mohammed al-Lahham, emphasized the difficulty of monitoring and documenting the crimes of the occupation, specifically against journalists in the Gaza Strip, due to the movement difficulties and the frequent interruption of electricity, cellular communication and internet networks.
