Palestinian Foreign Ministry Praises Portugal’s Recognition of State of Palestine


Ramallah: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has welcomed Portugal’s decision to officially recognize the State of Palestine, viewing it as a significant step aligned with international law and United Nations resolutions. This move is perceived as a support to the ongoing efforts aimed at achieving peace and implementing the two-state solution.



According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the Ministry issued a statement expressing gratitude to nations that have declared their intention to recognize the State of Palestine. The statement emphasized the importance of other countries joining this initiative to safeguard the two-state solution. It urged international engagement to secure an immediate ceasefire, protect civilians, and initiate a political process to end the occupation, thus allowing the Palestinian people to realize their right to self-determination, in line with the New York Declaration, the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice, and international law.



The Ministry reiterated that recognition would contribute to security, stability, and prosperity for the countries and peoples of the region.
