Palestinian Central Council Establishes Deputy Chairman Position in Historic Decision

Ramallah: The Palestinian Central Council has reached a significant decision by overwhelmingly voting to establish the position of deputy chairman within the PLO Executive Committee. This marks the first time in the organization's history that such a position will exist.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the newly established role of the deputy chairman will be filled from within the current members of the PLO Executive Committee. The appointment will occur upon the nomination by the Committee chairman and require approval from the Committee members. Additionally, the chairman holds the authority to assign tasks to the deputy chairman, relieve them from their duties, or accept their resignation.

The decision saw broad support, with 170 Executive Committee members participating in the vote either in person or via Zoom. Of these, only one member opposed the decision, while another chose to abstain.
