Gaza: The prestigious Oxford Union has made headlines with its recent vote declaring Israel an "apartheid state responsible for genocide." The decision, which emerged from a public debate, concluded with 278 votes in favor and 59 against. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the debate sparked significant controversy and featured prominent figures advocating for Palestinian rights. Among the speakers were American Jewish writer Norman Finkelstein, American Israeli activist and writer Miko Peled, Palestinian American writer Susan Abulhawa, and Palestinian activist Mohammed al-Kurd. The discussion was framed by Oxford University student Othman Muwafi, who emphasized the severity of the issue by stating he was "putting the right names on the clear facts." Muwafi challenged the audience with poignant questions about the impact of violence on families in Gaza, referencing a quote attributed to Netanyahu about Gaza and highlighting that half of Gaza's population comprises children. The Oxfo rd Union, established in 1822, is renowned for hosting high-level debates that attract scientists, thinkers, politicians, activists, and cultural figures from around the world.
