Ramallah: Palestinian prisoners' institutions have reported that the number of Palestinian detainees and prisoners held in Israeli occupation prisons and detention centers has exceeded 9,350 as of early January 2026.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the detainees include 53 women, among them two minors, and approximately 350 children, who are held in Megiddo and Ofer prisons. The figures released by the Israeli Prison Service indicate a significant number of administrative detainees, standing at 3,385. Additionally, there are 1,237 individuals classified by Israel as 'illegal combatants.' This figure does not encompass all Gaza detainees held in Israeli military camps, a category that also includes Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria.
Prisoners' institutions have highlighted that around 50 percent of all detainees are held without charges, either under administrative detention or under the 'illegal combatant' classification used by the occupation. Notably, administrative detainees alone account for more than 36 percent of the total number of Palestinians in Israeli prisons.
