RAMALLAH: Israeli forces have detained over 40 Palestinians in the West Bank, including former prisoners, as part of an ongoing crackdown, multiple sources reported. The detentions began yesterday evening and have been concentrated in specific areas, including Hebron, Jerusalem, Qalqilya, Ramallah, and Salfit. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the detentions were accompanied by assaults, threats against detainees and their families, and significant property destruction, including damage to homes. The Palestinian Authority's Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoner's Society have confirmed these reports, highlighting the intensification of Israeli operations in the region. This recent wave of detentions is part of a broader campaign by Israel, which has escalated its efforts since the onset of its military actions in Gaza in October 2023. Local authorities report that over 11,900 Palestinians have been detained from the West Bank and Jerusalem during this period. The systematic approach to these detentions reflects a key aspect of Israeli policy, with large-scale rounding up of individuals being a component of ongoing military activities. It is noted that the figures mentioned pertain only to the West Bank, excluding detentions in Gaza, where significant numbers have also been reported.
