Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud on Thursday highlighted the critical role of the National Water Carrier Project in addressing Jordan's water deficit, noting the country's severe water scarcity. Speaking at the Energy Breakfast event organized by the Edama Association for Energy, Water, and Environment in cooperation with the Arab Fertilizers and Chemicals Industries Company (KEMAPCO), Abu Saud emphasized that the project is the third largest in the region and will provide Jordan with 300 million cubic meters of potable water annually. Abu Saud detailed the wide-reaching impact of the project, stating that it will have positive effects on the agricultural and tourism sectors, while significantly addressing water needs across the Kingdom. He further explained that the project's economic feasibility lies in maximizing the use of surplus water from agriculture, with the infrastructure expected to last 30 years. The minister stressed the importance of developing a sustainable long-term plan for t he project's future. Abu Saud also pointed to efforts to reduce water loss, with the ministry's agencies achieving a 7.5 percent reduction through an annual decrease of 2 percent. Duraid Mahasneh, Chairman of Edama's Board of Directors, emphasized the National Water Carrier's importance in enhancing Jordan's water security and called for collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure the project's success and sustainability. The Energy Breakfast is part of a series hosted by the Edama Association aimed at fostering dialogue between the public and private sectors to create partnerships that drive societal benefits and support the green economy.
