Gaza - Ma'an - Since the beginning of the Israeli war, the markets in the Gaza Strip have been lacking in shoes of all kinds, especially light shoes (slippers). Citizens are forced to resort to repairing their shoes again, which have become worn out and unusable, especially children's shoes. Ma'an monitored the citizens' rush in the Khan Younis market in the southern Gaza Strip to repair their worn-out shoes. Citizen Mohammed Qudaih, a resident of Khan Younis Khuza'a, said that he walks from place to place barefoot and sometimes resorts to borrowing shoes from his neighbors, and he remained in this condition for two whole months. He added, "I resorted to a shoe repairman to repair my shoes, which I am supposed to use for eight months, especially since the repair process cost 30 shekels." He confirms that the situation in the Strip is getting worse in light of the occupation's prevention of shoes from entering the markets, adding, 'We have to keep up with the situation and try to adapt to what is availabl e.' As for the shoe repairman, Moamen Al-Qara, he explains that there is a great demand from citizens to repair their old shoes and repair them again to use them. He continues, the cost of repairing a shoe has reached 30-35 shekels, with a guarantee that the shoe will stay with the citizen for eight months. He points out that the materials used to repair the shoes available to him are only enough for two months, especially since these materials are not currently available in the markets. Citizens resort to repairing their shoes in light of the crazy increase in the price of shoes, if available, which has reached 300 shekels, and this amount is not available in the pockets of the displaced. Israel prevents the entry of shoes in an incomprehensible manner, while people need the shoes that people lost during the bombing operations, in addition to the expiration of the lifespan of many of them.
