Doha: The Ministry of Labour has finalized its preparations to launch the Doha Dialogue on labour mobility between Gulf and African countries on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21 - 22nd, with the participation of 33 countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jordan, Lebanon, and 25 African countries. The Doha Dialogue will gather Their Excellencies Ministers of Labour, representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), experts, academics, and representatives of civil society. Members of the technical preparatory committee for the dialogue arrived in Doha earlier. The Executive Office of the GCC Councils of Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs will play a crucial role in coordinating labour policies and standards alongside their counterparts from the African Union. The Doha Dialogue is a result of an agreement between the State of Qatar and the African Union to establish a consultative mechanism between African and Gulf countrie s. This mechanism aims to adopt best practices to strengthen regional cooperation and partnerships for improved recruitment of workers from African countries and to ensure fair mobility between regions. The Doha Dialogue is expected to be a permanent, non-binding, state-led forum with the participation of relevant organizations as observers. The Dialogue will provide a conducive environment for a frank and open exchange of ideas to foster trust, cooperation, and partnership to reach best practice standards for labour mobility from African countries.
