The Ministry of Transport, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, the Royal Department for Environment Protection, and the Jordan Valley Authority, has launched the first phase of a project aimed at tracking private tankers transporting wastewater in the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea regions. This initiative, which involves the deployment of an advanced electronic tracking system, seeks to monitor these tankers and mitigate environmental pollution in these sensitive areas. The Ministry of Transport announced on Monday that this project is a crucial component of a broader strategy to address environmental issues, particularly the proliferation of flies in the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea regions. These areas have been adversely affected by the irregular and improper unloading of wastewater, posing serious environmental and public health challenges. According to the ministry, the next phase of the project will expand the electronic tracking system to cover all private sewage tankers in priority areas of the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea. These regions have been identified as being particularly vulnerable to fly infestations due to the non-compliance of some tanker operators with regulations that mandate the use of approved purification stations. The electronic tracking system, originally developed for monitoring government vehicles, will now be repurposed to oversee the operations of private wastewater tankers. This system will feature sensors installed on the tankers to track their loading and unloading activities, providing real-time data on the location and timing of these operations.
