Ministry Concludes Waste-to-Energy Project

Secretary General of the Ministry of Local Administration for Technical Affairs, Wajdi Dalaeen, on Tuesday stressed cooperation with Germany in a host of sectors, noting environmental programs that are a national priority in Jordan's sustainable development process. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Waste to Positive Energy in Jordan project, Dalaeen highlighted the significance of the initiative, which began in June, 2015. The pound 155.5 million project, funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the European Union, has an impact on numerous municipalities and joint service councils across Jordan as it generated 50,000 job opportunities for both Jordanians and Syrian refugees, providing temporary and permanent employment. Raeda Ouran, Director of the Solid Waste Management Department at the Local Administration Ministry, presented the project's key milestones and its impact on training, qualification and waste management practices, as well as success stories from various re gions. A representative of the German Embassy's highlighted the project's positive effects on local communities and reaffirmed Germany's commitment to further collaboration to achieve sustainable development goals. European Union representative Hazem Nazzal lauded continued cooperation between Jordan and the EU, reaffirming the bloc's commitment to supporting local administration initiatives in Jordan.
