Twenty Nigerien soldiers and one civilian were killed in an attack launched by "a coalition of terrorist groups" in western Niger on Tuesday, according to the country's Defense Ministry. "The attack, which targeted security forces near Tassia Village, west of the country, has also left nine more soldiers injured," the ministry said in a press release. However, the ministry added that the army had later launched an operation in which dozens of militants were neutralized, adding that a key member of the so-called Daesh group was also killed in the operation.
