The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland stressed that the scale of destruction in the Gaza Strip is enormous, that humanitarian needs are enormous and increasing, and that civilians continue to bear the brunt of this conflict. Wennesland added, in a statement, that during his visit to the Gaza Strip, he met with the heads of UN agencies and staff who are working tirelessly in very difficult conditions, stressing that "their commitment and courage in providing critical support to those in need is truly commendable." He pointed out that he also visited a polio vaccination center, adding that the re-emergence of (polio) represents another threat to children in the Gaza Strip. The UN official said that every passing day puts more lives at risk, and reiterated his call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. For more than ten months, the Zionist entity has been waging a comprehensive war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of martyrs, wounded and missing, most of them children and women, in addition to the displacement of about two million people, amidst massive destruction of the health and educational infrastructure and the cessation of food, water, medicine and fuel supplies, which resulted in a famine that claimed the lives of dozens of children.
