The new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, called for the recognition of a State of Palestine in order to achieve peace in the Middle East. In her first statement on the matter since taking office on Oct. 1, she said that Palestinian statehood must be recognized just like the case with the State of Israel, stressing that this has been Mexico's position for several years. Sheinbaum also condemned the violence in the Middle East, highlighting that war will never lead to a positive outcome. In recent months, there have been increasing calls from various countries to recognize a Palestinian state. Norway, Spain, and Ireland officially recognized Palestine on May 28, followed by Slovenia and Armenia, raising the total number of countries recognizing it to 149 out of 193 UN member states.
