Meeting discusses UNICEF’s plan for water & environmental sanitation sectors for year 2024

A meeting in Sana'a on Tuesday, headed by Deputy Minister of Water and Environment Hanin Al-Duraib, and including UNICEF Resident Representative in Yemen, Peter Hawkins, discussed the organization's plan for the year 2024 in the water and environmental sanitation sectors. The meeting, which included the Chairman of the General Authority for Rural Water Projects, Adel Bader, the Director of the Urban Cities Projects Unit, Muhammad Al-Shami, the Deputy Director of the Coordination and Development Unit, Amin Al-Amir, and the UNICEF water specialist, Anis Al-Arashi, touched on the priorities of the Water and Environment and its affiliated bodies, institutions and units regarding water and environmental sanitation projects for the current year. The attendees reviewed the implementation of the 2023 plan regarding projects, and ways to address the difficulties faced in their implementation, and in a way that contributes to alleviating the suffering of the beneficiary communities. At the meeting, the Deputy Minis ter of Water and Environment stressed the keenness to strengthen the partnership with UNICEF in implementing projects to contribute to meeting the population's water needs in light of the conditions the country is going through as a result of the aggression and siege. He pointed out that the partnership and coordination with UNICEF has resulted in the provision of water and sanitation services, expressing hope that the organization will continue to support the efforts of the Ministry of Water and its affiliated entities to implement sustainable projects with alternative energy, which contributes to the safe exit of diesel. Al-Duraib explained that UNICEF's continued support for the Ministry and its bodies contributed to the implementation of sustainable projects in various governorates and displacement centers... stressing the need for more water and sanitation projects in light of the increasing demand for them, as a result of the repercussions of the aggression and the siege, this requires international o rganizations, including UNICEF, to raise the ceiling of support in this aspect.
