The Independent Election Commission announced on Tuesday that it has referred a case involving alleged voter influence to the Public Prosecutor in the Mafraq electoral district. The case centers on a reported incident where public voting was encouraged under the pretext of voter illiteracy. The Commission's statement detailed that a video clip, circulated on social media, shows a supporter of a candidate in the Mafraq electoral district urging voters to cast their ballots publicly, claiming illiteracy. The candidate was reportedly present during the incident. This action is in direct violation of Article 30 of the Election Law, which mandates that elections be conducted in a general, secret, and direct manner. According to paragraph (b) of Article 60 of the Election Law: "Anyone who falsely claims illiteracy to vote publicly shall be subject to imprisonment for a term of no less than three months and no more than one year, or a fine ranging between two hundred and five hundred dinars, or both penalties." T he case has now been referred to the Public Prosecutor for further legal action. The Commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity and transparency of the electoral process and called on citizens to cooperate with oversight bodies by reporting any illegal practices. The Commission urged citizens with evidence of electoral violations to report them promptly to ensure accountability and protect the sanctity of voter intent. Source: Jordan News Agency
