Caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati affirmed his country's constants regarding the situation in the Middle East, particularly the priority of implementing United Nations resolutions, especially Resolution 1701. During his meeting with the ambassadors of the five permanent members of the Security Council (the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China, and Russia) and representatives of the non-permanent member countries present in Lebanon (Algeria, Japan, Switzerland, and South Korea), Mikati emphasized Lebanon's right to defend its land, sovereignty, and dignity by all available means in response to the systematic and dangerous Israeli escalation. It is noteworthy that the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1701 unanimously on Aug. 11, 2006, which calls for the immediate cessation of all Israeli offensive operations and the withdrawal of all its forces from southern Lebanon. However, the occupation forces continue to escalate their attacks on southern towns and villages, coinciding w ith their ongoing brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7.
