Lebanese caretaker prime minister calls for cease-fire in South

The head of the caretaker Lebanese government Najib Mikati on Sunday called for working out a cease-fire and implementing the UN Resolution 1701 in southern Lebanon. Mikati, in a statement issued by the premiership, urged the stakeholders to abstain from engagement in escalation that will complicate conditions further and ultimately lead to dire consequences. A sustainable ceasefire on all fronts is the sole solution, said Mikati, whose warning came against the backdrop of a deadly rocket attack in the occupied Golan where scores of people were killed or wounded. The incident prompted leaders of the Israeli occupation to threaten a painful and wide-scale retaliation against Lebanon, namely the resistance. Mikati indicated that contacts have been held with influential international, Arab and European powers to spare Lebanon further dangers. South Lebanon has turned into an arena for tit-for-tat attacks since early October, claiming many lives on both sides and leaving massive damage.
