JSMO processed 93,000 customs declarations during first half 2024

The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) announced Tuesday it dealt with 93,000 inbound customs declarations through the Kingdom's various customs ports, during the first half of 2024. In a statement, JSMO said its workers operate at border crossings to ensure compliance of goods and products imported into the Kingdom with standard specifications, technical rules and regulatory instructions before entering the local markets, as part of its efforts to provide health and environmental protection and public safety. The JSMO dealt with 765 customs declarations that showed violating products during the same period. Monitoring measures on inbound products at Jordan's customs ports focus on inspection, representative sample administration and testing in approved laboratories, which are the basis to take appropriate procedures to allow their entry, re-export, or destroy items, based on their condition, JSMO pointed out. The JSMO said it attaches "remarkable" importance to verify validity of trademar ks and conformity assessment documents, aimed to ensure that products bear the original trademarks, and prevent counterfeit products, or other items with forged documents from entering the markets.
