Gaza: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has condemned the brutal assault by Israeli occupation forces on Tunisian journalist Yassine Gaidi. Gaidi, a member of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT)’s executive office, was detained by Israeli forces while aboard one of the Global Sumud Flotilla boats.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the Syndicate has issued a statement urging all international institutions to exert pressure for Gaidi’s immediate release, along with all other journalists and international and Arab activists detained during the humanitarian flotilla’s mission. The flotilla was delivering aid to Gaza and documenting alleged war crimes against its people.
The statement from the Syndicate claims that the brutal assault and detention by Israeli forces in the Mediterranean Sea’s Palestinian and international waters highlight an attempt to suppress media coverage of the situation in Gaza. It argues that this incident reflects a deliberate policy by the Israeli government to target Palestinian journalists systematically.
Furthermore, the Syndicate emphasized that the current Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is extending its alleged systematic crimes to international and Arab journalists to hinder reporting on the situation in Gaza. The statement described the actions as part of what it called the “first media genocide in human history.”
In response to these actions, the Syndicate, in partnership with the International Federation of Journalists, is committed to pursuing legal action in international courts and the International Criminal Court. Their goal is to prosecute and hold accountable those responsible for the alleged killing of journalists and the war crimes and acts of genocide against Palestinian, Arab, and international journalists.
