Jordan’s Medical Efforts Spotlighted as Conference Approaches

Amman: As Jordan gears up for the international conference on June 11 to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Kingdom's steadfast commitment to providing critical medical services in the region is coming into the spotlight. Held at the King Hussein bin Talal Convention Center on the shores of the Dead Sea, this significant event is a collaborative effort between the United Nations, Jordan, and Egypt, initiated by the leaders of these nations and the Secretary-General of the UN. The conference aims to "identify ways to strengthen the international community's response to the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip," as stated by the Royal Hashemite Court. Attendees will include "leaders of states, heads of government, and heads of international humanitarian and relief organizations," all working towards developing effective mechanisms, addressing operational and logistical needs, and ensuring a coordinated approach to the crisis. Jordan's proactive medical interventions in Gaza are a testament to it s leadership. The Jordanian Field Hospital - North Gaza, established in 2009 under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, has been a lifeline for over 2 million patients. In response to the conflict that erupted on October 7, 2023, the hospital has treated more than 43,000 patients, underscoring its critical role in the region. Complementing these efforts, the Jordanian Field Hospital - South Gaza was established in late November 2023 to address the escalating health crisis. This facility, equipped with 41 beds and 41 incubators, has performed over 10,000 surgical operations and treated more than 86,000 patients, demonstrating Jordan's comprehensive approach to healthcare in crisis zones. Expanding Medical Support in the West Bank Jordan's humanitarian mission extends beyond Gaza to the West Bank. The Jordanian Field Hospital - Nablus, also established in late November 2023, has conducted over 900 surgical operations and treated more than 83,000 patients. Additionally, health centers in Ramallah and Jenin have provided essential healthcare services to tens of thousands of patients over the years, further highlighting Jordan's extensive medical support network. As the international community prepares to gather in Jordan, the Kingdom's unwavering dedication to humanitarian aid and medical assistance stands out. This conference not only underscores the urgent need for international cooperation but also reinforces Jordan's pivotal role in responding to one of the most pressing humanitarian crises of our time.
