Jordanian Team Advances to Regional Finals of Tech4Good

A team of 10 students from the University of Jordan, the German Jordanian University, Al-Balqa Applied University, and Princess Sumaya University for Technology has qualified for the regional finals of the fourth annual Tech4Good competition. Their success in the semi-finals, held in conjunction with the Seeds for the Future 2024 program by Huawei in Uzbekistan from August 12, has earned them a spot in the finals. Huawei's Amman office reported on Sunday that the Kuwaiti team secured first place, while the Emirati team took second place in the regional semi-finals. This year's Tech4Good competition saw participation from 150 students across 14 countries in the Middle East and Central Asia. The competition aims to empower youth to drive positive community change by developing innovative technological solutions to social challenges, utilizing cutting-edge information and communications technology. Jordanian students from Al-Balqa University, the German-Jordanian University, and the University of Jordan pre sented their "Black Lens" project, which focuses on enhancing urban safety. It involves a drone equipped with a smart mobile camera and AI technologies to detect various types of accidents. The drone alerts authorities and monitors the accident site, communicating with a nearby drone via cloud computing to ensure effective follow-up. Another project, presented by students from Princess Sumaya University for Technology, is "Garbage Classification Services for Recycling." This initiative uses the Internet of Things to improve recycling practices in Jordan. Smart containers alert authorities when full and guide garbage trucks via optimal routes.
