Jordan, UK Announce Winners of Research Grants for Development and Sustainability

Amman: The Industrial Scientific Research and Development Fund, under the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), and the British Royal Academy of Engineering have announced the winners of the 2024 Transforming Systems through Partnership program grants. These grants aim to support collaborative projects between academia and industry to address pressing challenges in development and sustainability. A £50,000 grant each has been awarded to the Royal Scientific Society, Balqa' Applied University, Al Hussein Technical University, Hashemite University, Yarmouk University, Mutah University, and Philadelphia University. The funds will support their research projects in energy and healthcare, conducted in partnership with Cranfield University, De Montfort University, Coventry University, University College London, Aston University, Northumbria University, and the University of Bath in the UK. HCST Secretary-General, Mashhour Refai highlighted the longstanding cooperation with the Academy, emphasizing t he importance of fostering collaboration between academia and industry. He urged Jordanian researchers to engage in applied scientific research to support the national economy. Rima Ras, Director of the Fund, highlighted the program's role in enhancing research and innovation capabilities in universities and national institutions. She noted that a committee of Jordanian and British experts evaluated 22 applications and approved support for seven projects. This session of the program includes participation from Jordan, South Africa and Thailand. To date, five rounds of the program have been conducted in Jordan in collaboration with the Academy, supporting 34 projects totaling over £2 million. Source: Jordan News Agency
