The national football team delivered a commanding performance, defeating Oman 4-0 in a crucial World Cup 2026 qualifying match at the Amman International Stadium on Tuesday. The win reignited the Nashama's campaign after their earlier setback against South Korea, as they now eye a stronger path to qualification. The match was attended by HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, HRH Princess Rajwa Al Hussein, HRH Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association, and a number of Their Royal Highnesses. First Half Dominance The Nashama's momentum started in the 26th minute when Yazan Naimat opened the scoring with a textbook header, capitalizing on a precise cross from midfielder Mahmoud Mardi. Naimat's timely connection sent the ball past Omani goalkeeper Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini, giving the Nashama the early edge and lifting the home crowd's spirits. Second Half Surge The second half began with the national team maintaining its dominance, as Ali Alwan doubled the lead in the 49th mi nute. The goal came from a penalty kick, awarded after an Omani defender brought down Naimat in the box. Alwan's composed finish to the left of the goalkeeper made it 2-0. Naimat struck again just minutes later in the 54th, netting his second goal and Jordan's third after a deflected shot from Alwan fell into his path. His quick reaction saw the ball bypass Oman's defense, solidifying the natioal team's control over the match. As the clock wound down, Alwan capped the night with a clinical finish in the 87th minute, slotting home the Nashama's fourth goal and leaving Oman without any hope of a comeback. Bouncing Back This victory was crucial for the Jordanian squad, who had been looking to regain form following their narrow 2-0 loss to South Korea in the previous round. Head coach Jamal Sellami's adjustments clearly paid off, as the Nashama played with precision and purpose, keeping their qualification hopes alive. The win also provided a significant confidence boost for the team, as they look to build m omentum in the remaining matches of the Asian qualifiers. Group Standings With this win, Jordan climbs to 7 points, tied for second place with Iraq, who lost to South Korea today. South Korea remains at the top of Group B with 10 points, holding sole possession of first place. Looking ahead, the national team faces two crucial away matches next month against Iraq and Kuwait, where they will aim to continue their push for World Cup qualification. Source: Jordan News Agency
