The 6th World Media Summit kicked off Monday in Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China, under the title "Artificial Intelligence and Media Transformation." The summit brings together over 500 participants, including 208 representatives from major media outlets, government agencies, and international organizations, including the Jordan News Agency (Petra). On its first day, the summit addressed critical topics related to artificial intelligence and digital transformation in the media. Participants reviewed the opportunities and challenges arising from rapid developments in artificial intelligence technology and their impact on the global media industry. The discussions also covered the role and responsibilities of the media amid the modern technological revolution and how these opportunities can be harnessed to promote global development and serve humanity. The conversations highlighted issues concerning misleading news and information, as well as their negative impa ct on public awareness and various media outlets. Fu Hua, President of Xinhua News Agency, emphasized at the opening ceremony that artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly worldwide, profoundly affecting economic and social development. He cautioned about the risks and challenges associated with this progress and called on the media to act as a bridge for international communication to seize opportunities and overcome challenges linked to the development of artificial intelligence. Global media leaders underscored the importance of adhering to journalistic ethics and professional standards in light of these rapid developments, stressing the need to publish accurate and objective information. Additionally, the Xinhua Institute issued a report that addressed the advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence technology and its impact on global media, examining the challenges and opportunities it faces in this era. The summit serves as an important platform for exchange among global media leade rs and is organized in cooperation between Xinhua News Agency and the government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
