AMMAN: Jordan's King Abdullah II today discussed with Egypt President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi and western officials the efforts to de-escalate the situation in the Middle East, according to the Royal Hashemite Court (RHC). RHC said in a press statement that Abdullah II discussed such efforts in separate phone calls with Egypt's Al Sisi, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In the phone call, Abdullah II and Al Sisi stressed the importance of 'exerting the utmost efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and maintain comprehensive calm.' They 'reiterated the importance of reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire and putting an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.' Meanwhile, during the calls with Macron, Meloni and Trudeau, Jordan's monarch 'warned against the danger of a regional expansion of the conflict, stressing the need to step up efforts to safeguard security and stability in the region.' 'Discussions also covered the importance of reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, as well as protecting civilians, and preventing the deterioration of the humanitarian catastrophe,' the RHC said. In his calls with Al Sisi and the western leaders, Abdullah II 'noted the importance of creating a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace, on the basis of the two-state solution, guaranteeing the Palestinians' right to establish their independent state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.'
