Jordan achieved ‘qualitative’ leaps in entrepreneurship indicators-Report

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship launched the Jordan National Report for the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) for the year 2023/2024. The report was released in cooperation with the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan and German-Jordanian University (GJU) and with the support of German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The report is a "key" international report that assesses the state of entrepreneurship worldwide, and is an "important" reference to understand the Kingdom's entrepreneurship environment by analyzing the challenges and opportunities facing various economies. According to a ministry statement Sunday, the report showed Jordan has achieved "qualitative" leaps in several indicators, as the rate of entrepreneurship activity in its early stages increased from 9.1% in 2020 to 15.7% in 2024, which contributed to improve the Kingdom's global ranking from 34th in 2020 to 15th in 2024 among 46 participating countries. The participating experts' opinions also revealed a "significant" improvement in government policies in supporting entrepreneurship, as the assessment score rose from 4.5 in 2020 to 5.1 in 2024. This progress was due to the government's "pioneering" programs in line with the Economic Modernization Vision, its executive program, and the National Entrepreneurship Policy. The ministry stressed the report's importance in supporting and enhancing the Kingdom's entrepreneurship environment as it provides a "comprehensive" vision on the reality of entrepreneurship and the related challenges, while highlighting the "remarkable" progress in this regard. Furthermore, the ministry indicated that the report reflects improvement in the main entrepreneurship indicators, which confirms the ongoing commitment to support start-ups, stimulate economic growth, and develop the necessary policies and initiatives to attract investments and transform Jordan into a regional center for innovation and entrepreneurship. The ministry noted the report's prepar ation was based on a survey of the adult population, which comprised a random sample of no less than 2,000 people from each participating country, and determines the adults' percentage, who start or manage new businesses.
