Ministry of Industry for the Foreign Trade Sector Fuad al-Huwaidi and Director-General of the Traffic Police Brig. Gen. Bakil al-Barashi have discussed the joint working mechanism for importing and regulating the work of motorcycles. The two officials reviewed a report on the efforts made in the campaign to seize unmarked and unnumbered cars and motorcycles, as well as the campaign to restore traffic discipline and coordination to ensure traffic safety. Al-Huwaidi and al-Barashi touched on the problems caused by motorcycles, the increase in traffic accidents and traffic jam as a result of motorcycle drivers' non-compliance with traffic laws, etiquette and rules, and their increasing flow into the local market in an unregulated manner. They stressed the importance of regulating the import and sale of motorcycles, and the circular not to import them except with prior approval from the Ministries of Interior, Industry and Trade, according to Cabinet Resolution No. 63 of 2018. They stressed the need for each party to submit proposals regarding addressing the problems of motorcycles and to establish the necessary controls to regulate the process of importing them, and to identify importing dealers, agents, and shops that buy and sell motorcycles, stressing the necessity of determining the number allowed to be imported during the year, and determining their distribution locations according to the absorptive capacity of each governorate.
