JCDC, USAID Team Up to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance

Amman: The Jordanian National Centre for Epidemics and Communicable Diseases Control (JCDC) conducted a training workshop on Wednesday for coordinators addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR), in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This two-month event aims to enhance the coordinators' skills in data collection for monitoring and assessing indicators from the national plan to combat antimicrobial resistance, according to JCDC statement. Speaking at the workshop, Adel Bilbisi, head of the center, said antimicrobial resistance is a "key" public health challenge in the 21st century, adding that Jordan has implemented a five-year national action plan, aligned with the World Health Organization's global strategy to combat antimicrobial resistance. Bilbisi highlighted that a "key" aspect of the center's work is to oversee strategy development and implementation to control antimicrobial resistance, whic h aims to coordinate and link local initiatives with global efforts through the collaborative "One Health" approach. Additionally, he noted the center's role in supervising and participating in formulating a follow-up and assessment action plan by the national committee formed last year for this purpose. The team, comprised of coordinators for monitoring and assessing antimicrobial resistance activities, seeks to ensure "effective" implementation of the national plan to achieve the "desired" outcomes across all sectors, he added.
