Amman: Japan handed over medical equipment to the Jemzo Charity Association on Wednesday, in a ceremony attended by Okuyama Jiro, Ambassador of Japan to Jordan, and Sameer Abd Aljawad, Chairperson of the Jemzo Charity Association. In September 2023, the Government of Japan granted $72,245 to the Jemzo Charity Association for medical equipment through its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) program. The grant aims to enhance the quality of medical services at the Jemzo Medical Center in Zarqa by providing new ultrasound equipment, a panoramic dental X-ray, and an intraoral digital imaging sensor. Since opening the medical center in 2011, the Jemzo Charity Association has been offering medical, educational, and financial support to underprivileged Jordanians and refugees, providing services at affordable or no cost. Okuyama, speaking at the handover ceremony, praised the Jemzo Charity Association for its vital societal contributions. "In Jordan, affordable medical centers are cruc ial for vulnerable people due to high unemployment and poverty rates," he said. "In Zarqa, where the poverty rate exceeds 30%, many cannot access medical care due to a lack of public health insurance. Medical centers like Jemzo are indispensable for these populations." Since 1993, Japan has provided over $10 million through the GGP program, supporting 159 projects involving non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals, and local governments in Jordan.
