RAMALLAH: An Israeli military court extended today the detention of journalist Rasha Herzallah of the Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA) for the fifth time. According to the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), the court has now ordered Herzallah's detention to be extended until October 13, 2024. Herzallah was initially summoned for questioning by Israeli intelligence on June 2, 2024, at the Huwara detention camp. Her detention was first extended for 72 hours, then for five days, before she was subsequently transferred to Damon Prison. On June 10, 2024, a court session extended her detention for an additional two weeks. A follow-up hearing on June 24 extended her detention until August 11, 2024. Herzallah is among approximately 94 journalists who have been detained since the beginning of the Israeli offensive on Gaza in October 2023. Of these, 53 remain in custody. Among those detained are five female journalists, including Herzallah. Source: Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA
