JERICHO: Israeli occupation forces Wednesday evening tightened the suffocating military measures around the occupied West Bank city of Jericho, according to eyewitnesses. They said that the occupation forces tightened their restrictions on the freedom of movement of Palestinians at all the entrances of the city, stopping Palestinian-registered vehicles, inspecting passengers' identity cards, forcing them to endure long delays and virtually turning the city into a detention centre. Israel severely restricts Palestinians' freedom of movement through a complex combination of over 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions. Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel's 57-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
