Israeli Bombing in Al-Mawasi Claims 17 Lives Amid Escalating Violence.

Gaza Strip: Israeli bombing of the al-Mawasi area, located northwest of Khan Younes city in the southern Gaza Strip, resulted in the deaths of at least 17 Palestinians and left others injured on Wednesday evening, according to local sources. The aerial bombardment targeted makeshift camps set up for displaced Palestinians in an area designated by Israel as a "humanitarian zone." According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the aftermath of the bombing also saw emergency and rescue teams recovering a body following an Israeli attack on the al-Gneinia neighborhood, east of Rafah. In a separate incident, journalist Wael Abu Zeina sustained injuries when his house in Jabalia, in the northern Gaza Strip, was bombed. Additionally, several people were injured due to Israeli artillery shelling at the al-Bureij refugee camp in the central part of the Strip. The ongoing conflict has seen Israel continuing its military offensive in Gaza, despite a legally binding order from the International Court of Jus tice (ICJ) to halt its operations in Rafah, which may contravene its obligations under the Genocide Convention. Since the conflict escalated on October 7, the death toll has reached at least 44,532 Palestinians, with 105,538 others injured. Furthermore, the crisis has left at least 10,000 people unaccounted for, presumed dead beneath the rubble of their homes throughout the region. Reports from Palestinian and international organizations reveal that a significant number of the casualties are women and children. The conflict has also led to the forced displacement of nearly two million people across the Gaza Strip, many of whom have sought refuge in the overcrowded southern city of Rafah near the Egyptian border, marking one of the largest mass displacements since the 1948 Nakba.
