Israeli Airstrike on Gaza City School Shelter Results in Casualties

Gaza City: An Israeli airstrike targeting a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City Thursday evening killed three Palestinians and injured others, according to WAFA correspondent. The attack focused on Fahd As-Sabbah school, which was housing displaced individuals, leading to the tragic loss of life and multiple injuries.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, earlier in the afternoon, Israeli fighter jets launched three missiles at Dar al-Arqam school-turned-shelter in the At-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza. This strike resulted in the deaths of 29 civilians and left over 100 others wounded. The escalation follows Israel's unilateral decision to end the Gaza ceasefire agreement and resume aggressive operations in the region on Tuesday, March 18.

The ongoing conflict has led to significant casualties, with the death toll reaching 1,163 and 2,735 others wounded, as reported by medical sources. Emergency teams are actively working to recover victims still trapped under debris. The resumption of hostilities has raised concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza due to the continuous siege and restrictions on medical and humanitarian aid.

Since October 2023, Israel's military campaign on the Strip has claimed the lives of 50,523 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and caused injuries to 114,776 others. Additionally, at least 10,000 individuals are missing, believed to be buried under the rubble of their homes.

The conflict has also resulted in the displacement of nearly two million people across the Gaza Strip. Most of these displaced persons have been forced into the overcrowded southern city of Rafah, near the Egyptian border, marking the largest mass exodus in Palestine since the 1948 Nakba.
