Iraq Tuesday welcomed the UN Security Council's resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. According to a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said, "We welcome the resolution's support for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the safe return of the displaced to their homes, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to meet the needs of the residents of the Gaza Strip and rejecting any demographic change." The statement urged the Palestinian parties to consider the resolution in preparation for establishing an independent, fully sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
