Iraq and the United States of America announced today, Friday, setting a date for the end of the international coalition mission in the country. A joint American-Iraqi statement stated: "We announce the end of the coalition mission in Iraq within 12 months and no later than the end of September 2025." The statement added: "The coalition's military mission in Syria will continue until September 2026." The Iraqi government affirmed its commitment to protecting international advisers present in Iraq upon its invitation. The statement indicated: "The transition to bilateral security partnerships in a way that supports Iraqi forces and maintains pressure on the terrorist ISIS, and the Supreme Military Committee is committed to setting the necessary procedures to achieve what is stated in the above paragraphs, including timing and implementation mechanisms and ensuring physical protection for coalition advisers present in Iraq during the transitional period." Iraq expressed its thanks to the coalition for the support it provided to the Iraqi security forces, while the coalition expressed its appreciation for Iraq's role and the great sacrifices it made in fighting terrorist organizations.
