Baghdad, Iranian authorities announced that an earthquake struck the city of Kashmar in Khorasan Razavi Province on Tuesday afternoon, killing at least 4 people and injuring more than 120 others. It said that out of the 120 injured people, 35 were transferred to the hospital for treatment. The governor of Kashmar stated that two of the dead died while fleeing the earthquake, while the other two were trapped under the rubble. Local authorities in Khorasan Razavi Province, northeastern Iran, reported that the earthquake measured 5 on the Richter scale. Local authorities told state television that a rescue and search team was sent to the area immediately after the earthquake. The same source confirmed that the earthquake caused damage to most of the buildings, most of them seriously. For its part, the Earthquake Research Center of the Institute of Geology at the University of Tehran announced that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 6 km below the surface of the earth.
