The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), Thursday, condemned widespread attacks and violence against Palestinian journalists by Israeli occupiers during a march in occupied Jerusalem yesterday. IFJ Deputy General Secretary Tim Dawson in a statement said: "The attacks that happened during the nationalist flag parade are despicable and they must be thoroughly investigated." "Israel's police must take further action to protect journalists, particularly Palestinian journalists, ensure that the perpetrators are punished and end the climate of impunity in Israel," he added. According to an IFJ press release, the attacks happened during the so-called 'Jerusalem Day' holiday that marks the Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem following the Six Days war in 1967. Thousands of Israelis and Jews celebrate the date by parading the streets of Jerusalem's Old City, from Damascus Gate in the Muslim quarter to the Western Wall. The parade has often sparked violent clashes between Israeli marchers and Palestinian residents, as well as anti-Arab hate speech and vandalism, it noted. The Brussels-based IFJ represents more than 600,000 journalists in 146 countries. Source: Kuwait News Agency
