The Ministry of Interior announced today, Saturday, a decrease in the rate of fires compared to last year. The spokesman for the ministry of Interior and the Security Media Cell, Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, said in a statement that "the Civil Defense Directorate succeeded in reducing the rate of fire incidents recorded in all Iraqi governorates by 70% in July 2024", as it reached (938) fire incidents, while the incidents recorded for 2023 from the same month reached (2907). He added that "the Civil Defense Directorate considers July the highest month of the year in terms of the number of recorded fires due to the high temperatures and the increased chances of their causes." The statement indicated that "the Directorate attributes the reason for reducing the rate of recorded incidents during 2024 to the citizen's awareness in the first place, in addition to the deterrent legal measures against violators of safety procedures and civil defense requirements, including removing violations, which are among th e most prominent causes of the increase in fire rates in previous years."
