Amman: Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali said Monday that supporting the economic, political and social roles of Jordanian women and institutionalizing their participation is a key priority at the core of the government's strategic planning of various sectors. He said during a panel discussion on public joint-stock companies' governance instructions and promoting women's participation in decision-making that the Jordanian Constitution guarantees women's empowerment to ensure equal opportunity and fairness. The 2024 corporate governance guidelines, Shamali said, underscore a commitment to women's share of representation in board membership of no less than 20 percent, adding that the instructions were to unlock economic potentials and enhance women's involvement in the national economy. He said the government laid down institutional structures for that goal, including empowerment units in public institutions, ministries and municipalities, and enabling women to take leadership positions i n public and private institutions. Minister of Social Development, head of the Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, said the government has taken measures to empower and institutionalize women's participation in the political, economic and social fields. Mustafa said the corporate governance instructions was an indication of the government's seriousness in implementing legislative priorities for women's participation, based on the national interest and raising economic performance, stressing women's role in achieving many of the economic modernization vision's goals.
