ICC has jurisdiction over Israeli officials, say member states

Amman: Member states of the International Criminal Court (ICC) affirmed on Saturday that the court has jurisdiction over Israeli officials who commit crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories. The announcement was reported in a joint statement by Spain, Ireland, Colombia, Brazil, Palestine, South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros, and Djibouti, sent to the specialized preliminary examination chamber to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant. According to EuroNews, the statement emphasized that the ICC has jurisdiction over Israeli officials who commit crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories, according to the Rome Statute. On May 20, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan announced that the ICC is seeking arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant on charges of "war crimes." In a statement, Khan added that he "has reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant bear criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humani ty" committed on Palestinian territory in the Gaza Strip, beginning at least as of October 8.
