Amman: The Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC) said Monday it unveiled a number of corruption cases in 2023 leading to the retrieval of JD102 million, and also blocked the wasting of another JD38 million. It reiterated a pledge to "turn the Kingdom into an integrity and anti-corruption environment" in its annual 2023 report, which outlined its "qualitative" achievements, and challenges. In addition to dealing with individual malpractices and violations, the report said the anti-graft body has terminated tenders, including a training, maintenance and rehabilitation of tourist trails order, a fuel contract and a garment factory project worth millions, among others. The Commission also returned 5 million dinars to a public shareholding company due to an unlawful bid, conducted a reconciliation in a case that saved JD12-million, a 4-million livestock fodder purchase bid, and many more. IACC President Muhannad Hijazi said the commission seeks to acquire financial and administrative independence to carry out its role of enforcing the law and recovering stolen funds in corruption cases.
